News: Coens To Adapt Chabon

Joel and Ethan Coen will be adapting Pulitzer-prize winner Michael Chabon’s ‘The Yiddish Policeman’s Union,’ for their next feature.

The story is about a group of Jews settled in Alaska who are about to be displaced by the US government who plan on giving the land to Alaskan natives.  Meanwhile, a police officer investigates the death of a heroin-addicted chess prodigy who also might be the messiah.

The Coens will tackle this project after they finish shooting ‘A Serious Man,’ for Working Title films.  The already wrapped ‘Burn After Reading’ will open later this year.

As a fan of both the Coens and Chabon, I cannot wait to see this paring on the screen.  The only other book of Chabon’s to be adapted to the screen is ‘Wonder Boys.’  A film based on his ‘Mysteries of Pittsburgh’ was screened at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
