Director Anthony Minghella dead at 54

Anthony MinghellaAnthony Minghella died Tuesday morning at Charing Cross Hospital in London where he was recovering from what was described as a routine neck operation. It has been reported that during this time he suffered a brain hemorrhage that caused his death.

Anthony Minghella won an Oscar in 1996 for his direction of ‘The English Patient’. He also had ‘Cold Mountain,’ ‘The Talented Mr Ripley’ and ‘Truly Madly Deeply’ to his credit. In 2006, this talent turned his attention to the opera with his work on ‘Madama Butterfly’. He was 54.
