Frank Miller Releases ‘Spirit’ Pictures

Frank Miller, the well-known writer of such things as ‘300,’ and ‘Sin City,’ and the co-director of the latter has released 40 pictures from his latest project- the live adaptation of Will Eisner’s famous comic book hero, The Spirit.

Obviously, there’s some work still to be done. Miller is shooting ‘The Spirit’ much like ‘Sin City,’ with the background added later. If things turn out as well as they did in ‘Sin City,’ I’m there. (Actually, who am I kidding? I am there regardless. That 1940s era character will have me there everytime. Hell, I even saw Alec Baldwin’s ‘The Shadow’ on opening night. I loved ‘Sky Captain.’ So this is kinda right up my alley.

If you want to see all the pictures, Dark Horizons has them posted.

The movie stars Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Mendes, Scarlett Johansen, and Sarah Paulsen. It’s scheduled for release January 16, 2009.

Oh, and for comparison’s sake, here’s a look at the teaser poster.

*EDIT* We’ve been contacted by Lionsgate and asked to remove the images. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  1. I’ve seen that as well. Very well made. Really cool someone did it while Eisner was still alive and could see how much people loved and appreciated his work. (He’s since passed away.)
