Road to IFFBoston: Second Skin

IffBoston“Second Skin,” from Pure West films is a documentary about Massively Multiplayer Online Games, and the lives that they’ve transformed. Games like Second Life, and World of Warcraft have become a subculture, and “Second Skin,” follows a group of people and the effects such games have had on their lives.

Screened at sold out shows at SXSX the documentary comes to the Independent Film Festival of Boston with a slew of great reviews. The human psychology and drama at work here is unbelievably, from people falling in love, to letting the games consume them to the tune of 14 hours a day. “Second Skin” is an intimate look into that world.

I’ve somehow managed to only recently delve into the world of MMPORG’s, though, I did give Star Wars: Galaxies a try a few years ago. World of Warcraft is strangely addicting, and keeps pulling you back in to manically complete quests, and level your character. I’m very excited to see this film, because it definitely is the first to broach that subject.

Second Skin will be screening at the Independent Film Festival of Boston at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, and 6:45 p.m. Friday, April 25, both in the Somerville Theatre at Davis Square.
