Columbia gets ‘Goosebumps’

Columbia Pictures has just acquired the rights from Scholastic Media to bring R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosbumps,’ series to the silver screen.

The last adaptation of the Young Adult series was a TV series on Fox Kids Network, as well as Saturday mornings. Producing the potential franchise are Deborah Forte from Scholastic, and Neal Moritz, producer of such films as ‘The Fast and the Furious.’

The studio has placed the project in the fast track, and is looking to cast the children in the film with unknowns, and placing well-known actors in supporting roles.

I was actually a fan of R.L. Stine in my younger years, reading every ‘Fear Street,’ and ‘Goosebumps,’ book the week they came out. I could get through an entire ‘Goosebumps’ novel in 15-20 minutes, so I’d barely leave the store. The series has sold around 300 million books, second only to the ‘Harry Potter,’ series.
