Joining the ranks of Madonna, Jay-Z, and Shakira, Nickelback has signed on to Live Nation Artists. Bringing touring, merchandising, and recording under one shingle.
Live Nation will manage the bands touring, merchandising, sponsoring, travel packages, recorded music, licensing, non-tour sponsorship, DVD & broadcast rights, web and literary rights.
Shakira signed a similar deal last week, guaranteeing her $70 mil over the course of 10 years. Her cosmetic and hair care products are included in her agreement with Live Nation.
Personally, I’m not a fan of Nickelback in the least, but everytime this happens with Live Nation, I see it as a smart move. The traditional way the music industry works is just not working out, this is a step in the right direction. Though, at the same time, I’d hate to see a monopoly by Live Nation, but, clearly, their only signing larger acts.
