Summer Box Office Ends a Success

It wasn’t the biggest weekend for movies, but Labor Day weekend marks the end of the summer season, which has been pretty close to last years, only down 1%.

The weekend saw five new releases, but holdover ‘Tropic Thunder’ won the competition, bringing in $14.3 million. Vin Diesel’s action pic ‘Babylon A.D.’ despite some bad press from the director brought in $12 million and placed second.

None of the weekends opening comedies did very well, ‘Disaster Movie’ opened to abysmal reviews, and placed in 7th place with $6.9 million. ‘College,’ didn’t even make it into the top 10.
