‘Mountain’ of Competition for ‘Watchmen’

Looks like ‘Watchmen’ couldn’t stay on top for long, losing out to family-oriented Dwayne Johnson starrer ‘Race to Witch Mountain.’ Also taking away the R-rated male audience from Watchmen was the remake of Wes Craven’s ‘The Last House on the Left.’

‘Watchmen’ had a staggering fall from its opening weekend, however, it is on track to break even with its budget. Dawyne Johnson has proved his ability to bring in the families, working once again with ‘Game Plan’ helmer Andy Fickman.

Also premiering to fairly dismal numbers is the first “Whitest Kids U Know” film, ‘Miss March,’ which opened the weekend in 10th place.

Next week should be interesting, ‘Knowing’ starring Nicholas Cage, ‘I Love You, Man,’ and ‘Duplicity,’ moviegoers have a lot to choose from.

Here is the top 10:

1. Race to Witch Mountain – $25M
2. Watchmen – $18.1M
3. The Last House on the Left – $14.7M
4. Taken – $6.65M
5. Madea Goes to Jail – $5.13M
6. Slumdog Millionaire – $5.03M
7. Paul Blart: Mall Cop – $3.1M
8. He’s Just Not That Into You – $2.9M
