2015 Academy Awards Predictions

Tonight is the night, and I’m going to give you a quick run down of my predictions for the major categories!

Best Actor
Steve Carell, Foxcatcher
Bradley Cooper, American Sniper
Benedict Cumberbatch, Imitation Game
Michael Keaton, Birdman
Eddie Redmayne, The Theory of Everything

I believe this race to be really close, personally, I was blown away by Michael Keaton’s performance in Birdman – but seeing how much Redmayne has walked away with during the awards season, it’s quite likely to go to him for “The Theory of Everything.”

Best Actress
Marion Cotillard, Two Days One Night
Felicity Jones, The Theory of Everything
Julianne Moore, Still Alice
Rosamund Pike, Gone Girl
Reese Witherspoon, Wild

Julianne Moore has been cleaning up all season. Enough said.

Best Supporting Actor
Robert Duvall, The Judge
Ethan Hawke, Boyhood
Edward Norton, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Mark Ruffalo, Foxcatcher
J.K. Simmons, Whiplash

J.K. Simmons was mind blowingly good in “Whiplash,” for a long time I’ve thought of him only as JJ Jameson from Spiderman, but, no longer.

Best Supporting Actress
Patricia Arquette, Boyhood
Laura Dern, Wild
Keira Knightley, The Imitation Game
Emma Stone, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Meryl Streep, Into the Woods

Everything is skewing toward Arquette, I’d be surprised if she doesn’t get this.

Directing
Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Richard Linklater, Boyhood
Bennett Miller, Foxcatcher
Wes Anderson, The Grand Budapest Hotel
Morten Tyldum, The Imitation Game

For years Directing and Best Picture went hand in hand, but ever since the Academy shifted to the 10 best picture nominees, this category has been very skewed. “Birdman,” which I believe will take many of the technical categories was such a tight film, if Iñárritu doesn’t win this, I’ll be really surprised.

Best Picture
American Sniper
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
Boyhood
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Selma
The Theory of Everything
Whiplash

Outside of things shifting back like they used to be, “Boyhood” has the best shot of bringing home the gold.

We’ll find out in a few hours!
