As the only person on this site that has admitted to having a slight (read, ONLY slight) obsession with Star Trek, I’ll be handling most of the news in regards to the new film by J.J. Abrams (who no doubt is basking in the success of Cloverfield).
Other dates Paramount is moving
Paramount announced that it’d be moving the release date of Star Trek from December 25th to May 8th, 2009, obviously feeling that they’ve got a tent pole on their hands. J.J. Abrams name is definitely hot these days, but is that enough to bring a general audience out to see this film? Only time will tell, but like I’ve said before, I’m looking forward to seeing how this one will come out.
Paramount also announced the release date of Martin Scorsese’s new Leonardo DiCaprio starrer, Shutter Island (shooting in my home state), as October 2, 2009. I don’t even have to say how much I’m looking forward to this one. Scorsese returns to Boston, the state that proved to be the lucky charm he needed to finally receive his long deserved Oscar. Let’s see if this Dennis Lehane adaptation fairs better then Affleck’s Gone Baby Gone (which, wasn’t bad, but kinda got lost in the shuffle).
