High-Def Digest is running a report that Reuters news service picked up in Japan quoting an unnamed source at Toshiba that the company may pull the plug on its HD DVD players as early as next week.
‘We have entered the final stage of planning to make our exit from the next generation DVD business,’ the source is quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Japanese TV news station NHK is reporting that Toshiba will continue selling HD DVD players, but will stop production on all HD DVD compatible products and close its HD DVD factories in Northern Japan.
