Kevin Smith has been causing a bit of trouble with some promotions for his upcoming comedy ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno.’ In addition to blogs and video diaries, Smith has been known for his “internet-only trailers,” for many of his in-progress films.
The MPAA called to tell Smith, this wasn’t possible when he posted an adult-content filled trailer for ‘Zack and Miri.’ Apparently, despite the fact that the teaser trailer didn’t contain any footage from the film, it still is promotional material, and needs the MPAA’s rating before release.
If you ask my opinion on this, all I can do is shake my head, I hate the MPAA’s touch on everything, I think in a case like this, if a producer wants to release footage through his own personal site, it is his own business. I see the need for regulation, but, Smith’s site, though accessible by a general audience, is not exactly a movie theater where people go for trailers, its for hardcore fans.
Smith submitted the trailer for MPAA rating, so no doubt look for an edited down Red Bang trailer soon.
