Fanboys rejoice! Kevin Smith’s new film, ‘Zack and Miri Make a Porno,’ has been downgraded to R, after initially receiving an NC-17 rating.
NC-17 oftentimes thought of as commercial suicide for theatrical releases, the studio is ecstatic.
There were objections to two sex scenes involving Jason Mewes and Katie Morgan. The scenes were trimmed as far as Smith wanted to go, but it still wasn’t enough to receive an R rating. Smith believes the sexual scenes in the film were made in a cartoony, comedic, campy way, not to “titillate.” Though, I believe any sex scene, simulated or not, starring Jason Mewes should cause audiences to run for the hills.
The appeals board met with Smith, and reduced the rating on Tuesday. Smith told reporters “Anybody not inclined to see a movie with `Porno’ in the title is not going to see it, so it kind of regulates itself to a degree,” Smith said. “And anybody who is going is not going to be surprised by what they see.”
