In an interview with Billboard, Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready said that the band is working with filmmaker Cameron Crowe on a behind-the-scenes type film.
Here’s what McCready said: “We’re building up to our big 20th anniversary… We’re trying to have a little campaign of building rereleases with new mixes and new outtakes up until that time. We’re trying to do a movie with Cameron Crowe with all of our existing footage.”
So is this Crowe project a documentary a la Peter Bogdonavich’s “Running Down a Dream,” or is it more of a concert film, like Martin Scorsese’s “Shine a Light?” As much as it pains me to type the words, only time will tell.
The band is currently working on their follow-up to their self-titled record, due out later this year. They’re also playing a few shows in South America this summer. Pearl Jam members Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Eddie Vedder played members of Matt Dillon’s band Citizen Dick in Crowe’s “Singles.”
