Mike Newell, best known for directing “Four Weddings & a Funeral,” “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” and the upcoming “Prince of Persia,” is reportedly in talks to direct Johnny Depp in Disney’s upcoming “The Lone Ranger.”
Disney is said to view the movie as the heir to their “Pirates of the Carribean” film trioligy. Gore Verbinsky, who directed the Pirates films, apparently scuttled his chance at directing “Ranger,” by turning down a fourth “Pirates” movie.
