Variety is reporting that at least Tom Hanks still has some sense about him, and has turned down the chance to star in Steven Spielberg’s remake of “Harvey.” Why, you may ask, did Hanks pass on the movie? Apparently, Hanks thinks that Jimmy Stewart’s performance as Elwood P. Dowd was perfect and there was no way he would top the original. Huh. Interesting idea. Why try to fix perfection. Who’d be silly enough to try that? (I’m looking at you, Steven Spielberg.) Will Smith is reportedly Spielberg’s second choice. Hopefully he’ll have the same good sense as Hanks and Spielberg will move onto something else. Soon.
