Director Roman Polanski was arrested in Switzerland this weekend in relation to his 1978 arrest warrant in the US on rape charges. Polanski was trying to attend the Zurich Film Festival, where he was scheduled to receive a lifetime achievement award. Swiss authorities say Polanski was placed in ‘provisional detention,’ but he will be extradited to the US “only after the extradition process judicially has been finalized.”
A documentary film about the case, “Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired,” debuted on HBO last year and last Sunday, won an Emmy for writing.
As if this story couldn’t get any more stranger or bizarre, it continues to do just that.
