Akira is slated to be another in a string of Hollywood’s remakes of Japanese films. The spin? This anime classic is being remade as a live-action film set in a new Manhattan. Appian Way, Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, will partner with Warner Bros. to bring this film to the big screen in the summer of 2009. This film will also be the feature length film debut of director Ruairi Robinson, an animated short Oscar nominee, and is currently being considered as a two-part series.
