Review: I Love You, Man

I Love You, Man“I Love You,  Man,” is a romantic “buddy” comedy from Writer-Director John Hamburg (Along Came Polly), starring Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones, and Jason Segel.

The film tells the story of Peter (Paul Rudd), a real estate agent who proposes to his girlfriend of 8 months, Zooey (Rashida Jones). It comes up that Peter has never really had any close male friends. Peter overhears Zooey talking with her friends about this, who see this as a red flag. Peter goes out to find a male friend. Through trial and error, Peter meets Sydney (Jason Segel).

Rudd, Jones, and Segel are all extremely talented, very funny people. It would have been very easy for this movie to go down tired beaten path of cliché after cliché. A lot is owed to the charming cast, they kept the audience engaged. Other then the premise, there isn’t a whole lot here. Just a fun, date movie that is very enjoyable.

There were times where the movie felt slightly long, and I felt that the twist (unfortunately predictable, albeit required by the genre) that pushes us into the final act took a bit long to get to. But again, this isn’t looking to win Oscars, just make us laugh. All-in-all “I Love You, Man,” is definitely an excellent date movie.
