Disney Previews ‘Alice,’ ‘Up,’ and ‘Toy Story 3’

Apparently the Disney shareholders meeting went well this week, with a look at Tim Burton’s upcoming ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ The film stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter (of course it does). The film will be a mix of CGI and live action, and stars Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen (of course it does…), Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

Other movies previewed, a 3-D screening of ‘Up,’ and early footage of ‘Toy Story 3.’

Eckhart and Jenkins Join “Rum Diary”

The new film of Hunter S. Thompson’s first book might be adding a few new faces to the cast.

Aaron Eckhart is in talks to join the project, while Oscar-nominated actor Richard Jenkins has already signed on.  Jenkins joins previously signed actors Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, who played Raoul Duke, another one of Thompson’s alter-egos in “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.”

Bruce Robinson, best known for writing and directing “Withnail and I,” has written the screenplay and is directing.  Shooting is scheduled to begin March 30th in Puerto Rico.

When it rains, it pours…

Pictures, some 400 of them, taken behind-the-scenes of Michael Mann’s latest movie, “Public Enemies,” have surfaced on-line.  First Showing has taken the liberty of going through them and grabbing the really choice shots.  Check them out.

There are reports that the movie has already had a couple of sneak peaks for audiences to give their opinion.  These pictures could be from re-shoots following those screenings.

In the movie, Depp plays John Dillinger, Oscar-winner Marillon Cotillard his special lady friend, and Christian Bale co-stars as the FBI agent tracking them down.  -Sam

The movie, starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp opens July 1st.

‘Rum Diary’ Looks to Be Depp’s Next Movie

‘Rum Diary’ Looks to Be Depp’s Next Movie

s_thompson_c.jpgLooks like Johnny Depp’s next movie will be something he’s been wanted to do for some time.

The web-site ‘The Bad and the Ugly,’ says that Depp’s next movie will be ‘The Rum Diary,’ based on Hunter S. Thompson’s novel.  They’ve also posted pages for actresses trying out for the female lead.  The pages say shooting will start in March 2009.

This will be director Bruce Robinson’s first movie since 1992’s ‘Jennifer 8.’  (Robinson is best known for ‘Withnail & I.’

Johnny Depp’s been talking about doing this movie since 2005, and as a fan of Dr. Thompson’s work, I’m quite excited to see that things are finally getting rolling.  If we hear anything else about casting, of course we’ll pass the news along to you.  -Sam

Writer Claims ‘Pirates’ Rumors Not True

Apparently the news that has been circulating about a fourth Pirate film is far from true, including the record payday for Johnny Depp.

In his blog, Terry Rossio wrote:

“For the record, none of the recent Pirates 4 rumors have any truth, including the so-called record 50 million dollar payday for Depp.

Some pretty funny stuff, though. Sacha Cohen? Tim Burton? Studios are way too protective of their franchises for that sort of thing.”

The only confirmed fact is that Depp will will return as Jack Sparrow. It’s a shame, I would have loved to see Depp walk with 50 million and star in a half-rate addition to a franchise that definitely has overstayed its welcome.

Johnny Depp to Play the Riddler in Next Batman Movie?

With the success of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight,’ (I’ve read a bunch of articles suggesting that the film could possibly pass ‘Titanic,’ as the highest grossing film of all time,) talk always turns to the follow-up movie.

While Nolan and his co-writer brother remain un-signed for a follow-up, Flylyf is reporting that producers are eyeing Johnny Depp to play the Riddler in part three.

I’m a huge fan of the Depp, (as I believe I mentioned only last week in an article about the ‘Alice in Wonderland,’ re-make by Tim Burion,) and I’m not going to repeat that all here. Needless to say, I’m intrigued. That is, if this is true in the least bit. We’ll see -Sam

Johnny Depp to Play Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp to Play Mad Hatter

MSN News in Latin America is reporting that Johnny Depp has been signed to play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s adaptation of ‘Alice in Wonderland.’

The movie will be shot in 3D.  Australian actress Mia Wasikowska has alreay been signed to play Alice.

For me, I’ll sit through anything Johnny Depp does.  After his performances in ‘Ed Wood,’ ‘Fear and Loathing,’ and even the first ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie.  Depp has me.  I even liked ‘Once Upon a time in Mexico,’ in large part because of Depp’s performance.

Say what you will about Depp, this’ll be an interesting one…  -Sam

John Woo to adapt “Caliber”

John Woo will be directing an adaptation of the comic book “Caliber.” The film, a co-production of Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil, Barry Levine’s Radical Comics, and Lion Rock, Woo and Terence Chang’s US production company.

The comic book sets King Arthur and his knights as gunslingers in the west.

Though, this film probably won’t be his next, he previously announced “1949,” a period romance film set during the Chinese Revolution. “The Sicilian Clan,” a remake of a 1969 crime drama, and “The Divide,” the story of a Chinese rail-worker in the US.
