Following the screening of Joss Whedon’s adaptation of “Much Ado About Nothing,” actors Franz Kranz and Jillian Morgese joined the pack crowd at the Somerville Theatre for a Q&A. Did you know Joss Whedon loves Shakespeare? I certainly didn’t, so when I first heard about his adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies, “Much Ado About Nothing,” I really wondered what it would be like. Joss Whedon’s The Avengers could have gone either way. It either could have been a complete disaster, or, a hell of a lot of fun. I’m pleased to report that The Avengers is a resounding success.
The film opens with Thor’s brother, Loki, arriving on earth via the Tesseract (a crazy energy cube being researched by S.H.I.E.L.D.). The tesseract is housed in a research facility, and Loki instantly sets out on a path of destruction, battling it out with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and destroying the research facility. Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard written thriller ‘The Cabin in the Woods,’ has been acquired and greenlit by MGM as a directing vehicle for Goddard. Goddard has been a writer/exec producer on ‘Lost.’ and recently wrote the script for ‘Cloverfield.’
The story has being kept under wraps, but from a team that brought us ‘Buffy,’ I expect a pretty good outing. I liked ‘Cloverfield’ quite a bit, and I’m a fan of all of Joss Whedon’s work. We’ll keep an eye on this one for you.
