Get it while it lasts, someone has uploaded the full Prince of Persia trailer to Youtube. Apparently it premiered the other night in the UK. First impression is, lots of slow motion jumping, lots of effects, but will the film find an audience? Prince of Persia is an interesting franchise, obviously it is an incredibly popular video game, but, will enough people be into it that they’ll check out the film? Only “time” will tell.
I’m not sure I can say I’m super excited about this, just because I’m extremely skeptical of how good it could be. The first is an official poster featuring Jake Gyllenhall looking all sexy-like as the Prince. Then the Prince’s lover played by Gemma Arterton. I mean, this ain’t much, but, its good to see material slowly dropping.
Ridley Scott’s new movie, “Robin Hood,” is set for release May 24th, 2010.
This now completely fills the month of May with high-profile releases. (The other films include “Shrek 4,” “Prince of Persia,” and, um, oh yeah,”Iron Man 2.”
“Hood” stars Russell Crows as Robin Hood and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. The two most recent historical films that Scott’s done have been “Gladitor,” and “Kingdom of Heaven.” Hope this one leans more towards “Gladiator,” instead of “Kingdom of Heaven.”
As ‘Prince of Persia,’ comes closer to its start date, the more news we get. Earlier this week we reported that Alfred Molina had been cast as the Sheik. Today we learn Ben Kingsley has been cast as Nizam, who plots to kill his brother King Shahrman, and blame it on Prince Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal).
I’ve always been a fan of Kingsley, the cast here sounds stellar.
No word yet if Justin plans on seeing this movie.
As with all video-game adaptations, I’m following this one closely. Alfred Molina has joined the ranks of Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, and Ben Kingsley in Disney’s “Prince of Persia,” an adaptation of the classic video game franchise.
Molina plays Sheik Amar, a mentor to the prince (played by Jake Gyllenhaal). The film is being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, and directed by Mike Newell. The film is set to start shooting in July, in the U.K. and Morocco.
Coming to you from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, and director Mike Newell is your latest video game adaptation, ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.”
Jake Gyllenhaal has been cast in the title role, Dastan, a young prince joins forcest with Tamina, an exotic princess, to prevent a villain from possessing the Sands of Time. The villain aims to reverse time and rule the world.
Gemma Arterton, who will be seen in the next James Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace,’ will star as the Princess.
Prince of Persia has never been my bag, and its interesting to see talent like Jake Gyllenhaal in something like this. Gyllenhaal dressed in the trademark outfit of the Prince of Persia should be an interesting site. There’s no word yet at what their looking to rate this film, but I’d say their best bet would be to aim for a younger, but a lot of it depends on the execution.
