The girls from ‘Sex and the City’ officially whipped Indiana Jones this weekend, raking in $55.7 million, making it the best opening ever for an R-rated comedy. Indiana Jones still brought in an honorable $46 million, with a decline of 54% from the Holiday weekend.
The box office success of ‘Sex and the City,’ has no doubt sparked talk over a sequel. Variety reports that 85% of those who saw the film on its opening night were female, with the audience giving the film an A on their exit. Also, Fandango reported that the film made its top 10 list of most advance ticket sales for last week.
The horror film, ‘The Strangers,’ was respectable in its own right, placing in third place.
