It’s no surprise that a film like “The Avengers,” is filled with an insane amount of effects. But the amount of detail, especially in the film’s final battle scene in the streets of New York, is staggering. This great behind the scenes video from ILM shows great insight into just how much of the city was CG, and how they were able to pull it off so well.

Film Review: The Avengers

Film Review: The Avengers

Joss Whedon’s The Avengers could have gone either way. It either could have been a complete disaster, or, a hell of a lot of fun. I’m pleased to report that The Avengers is a resounding success.

The film opens with Thor’s brother, Loki, arriving on earth via the Tesseract (a crazy energy cube being researched by S.H.I.E.L.D.). The tesseract is housed in a research facility, and Loki instantly sets out on a path of destruction, battling it out with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), and destroying the research facility. Hopkins Joins “Thor” Cast

Sir Anthony Hopkins has signed on to the big screen adaptation of the Thor comic book.  Hopkins will play the Norse God Odin.

In a nut shell, the plot involves God Thor, whose reckless actions re-start a war, causing him to be cast down to earth.  He is forced to face his brother, Loki, who sends troops to earth to try and conquer it.

Thor will be played by Chris Hemsworth, and Loki by Tom Hiddleston.  Also starring is Natalie Portman.  Kenneth Branagh is directing.  “Thor” is scheduled for release in January 2011.

Skarsgard Joins ‘Thor’

Apparently Stellan Skarsgard has joined the cast of ‘Thor,’ based on the Marvel Comic character of the same name.

It hasn’t revealed what role he’ll be playing. Skarsgard’s son, Alexander Skarsgard was long rumored for the role of Thor, which was given to Chris Hemsworth

The film stars Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, and Colm FEore.

Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the film is aiming for a May 2011 release.

Paramount and Marvel Make Deals, Hire Helmers

Kenneth Branagh is currently in negotiations to direct the live-action adaptation of the Marvel Comic ‘Thor.’ The film has been written by Mark Protosevich, following the story of disabled med student Donald Blake, and his norse god alter ego, Thor.

Personally, I think this is going to be one of the harder adaptations to convince audiences to go see. You see Spiderman fans, even Hulk fans, but whose like, yeah I love Thor and his hammer.

I guess we’ll see soon enough, the film is scheduled for a July 16, 2010 release. Paramount  just recently made a pact with Marvel Studios to release Thor and Iron Man 2 the same summer.

Other adaptations on the schedule are ‘The First Avenger: Captain America’ (May 6, 2011) and ‘The Avengers’ (July 15, 2011)
