‘Broken City’ marks Allen Hughes first solo film – the Hughes Brothers last joint effort being ‘The Book of Eli.’ The film stars Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe, and was on the Hollywood black list since 2008. The script, written by Brian Tucker, found a home with Hughes.
Ridley Scott’s new movie, “Robin Hood,” is set for release May 24th, 2010.
This now completely fills the month of May with high-profile releases. (The other films include “Shrek 4,” “Prince of Persia,” and, um, oh yeah,”Iron Man 2.”
“Hood” stars Russell Crows as Robin Hood and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. The two most recent historical films that Scott’s done have been “Gladitor,” and “Kingdom of Heaven.” Hope this one leans more towards “Gladiator,” instead of “Kingdom of Heaven.”
Now I say this with the utmost respect. I sometimes feel like there are two different types of Ridley Scott films. There are the Ridley Scott films that I feel like he feels very passionate about (Gladiator), then there are ones that he might feel passionate about, but the evidence isn’t clear in the final product (Kingdom of Heaven). This is how I feel about ‘Body of Lies.’
Sienna Miller has signed on to star with Russell Crowe in ‘Nottingham’ a new revisionist take on the tale of Robin Hood. Miller will star as Maid Marion in a story that focuses on the Sherrif of Nottingham (Crowe) as a lawman who works under a corrupt king, and engages in a love triangle with Marion and Robin Hood.
The film will start shooting late summer, and will be directed by Ridley Scott. The film has been scheduled for a November 6, 2009 release.
I was skeptical of this until I read the part where Ridley Scott would be directing. I love when Scott and Crowe team up, and I love Scott’s period epics, this could end up being a very entertaining film.
